It seems obvious that we should not be lazy, but let's be honest; we are all guilty of wasting time or not doing the best job we can possibly do.

Why?  Ephesians 5:15-17 instructs "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is." 

How often do we waste time at work texting our friends/family members, or talking to co-workers instead of doing our job? Or rush through the task at hand, not putting forth our best efforts, so we can leave work early on Friday?  To be clear, we're not to be robots, constantly working and never having fun, but it's become the norm in our culture to expect to be entertained all the time; even when there is work to do.  But as scripture points out, we are to "make the best use of our time...and not be foolish."

What to expect?  In choosing to fast from laziness, especially in the workplace, be prepared to lose a few "friends."  Our human nature draws us to follow the easy path; that's the result of original sin.  But God calls us to a higher standard, and as such, greater fulfillment as well.

There is much work to do for the Lord.  When we use our time wisely and put forth our best efforts, we may find ourselves truly beginning to "understand the will of the Lord" for our lives.
