There are a number of organizations that help those get back on their feet that have been knocked down by the blows of life. One of the ways they do that is to practice one of the Corporal Works of Mercy,
clothe the naked. Some folks may have been out of the workforce for some time and need work attire so they can interview and obtain a job. Others need the very basics of life to get through another day.
Why? We live in a country of abundance, and though we may not think we have much, possess far more than most. Why not share the wealth? Matthew 25:36 reminds us that "[for I was] naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me."
How many of us have been imprisoned by the circumstances in our lives and in need of help? Something as simple as our unwanted clothes or shoes may make a world of difference to someone that is in need of them.
What to expect? We may never know the recipient of our generosity, and that's okay because Matthew 6:2 says that "when you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you...your Father who sees in secret will repay you." We don't need to know them, and they do not need to know us because our kindness is a gift for the Lord alone who will bless us abundantly.
